From MTV to Midlife - the Gen X Journey
We played under the blazing sun and firefly-lit skies. We danced to the beat of rock prophets. We were the popular kids and the misfits, the jocks and the nerds, the wallflowers and the homecoming queen.
We were the children of the endless summer … and in all the ways that matter, we still are.
A few years might have passed, but Gen Xers are still shaking things up and rewriting the rules. We’re redefining midlife and making it ours. But to live life on our own terms, we need to feel our best.
At Midlife Mosaic, I believe in an approach that blends holistic health & wellness with science. I think it’s important to keep an open mind while also applying proven research. That’s why you’ll find down-to-earth information about topics relevant to midlifers, and practical strategies that fit into a busy lifestyle.
I know you have a million things on your plate. Just make sure you’re on that plate, too. Taking care of yourself isn’t just for today. It’s setting the stage for a healthy, active future, and Midlife Mosaic can help you get there.
So, pull out that boombox and ramp up your favorite power ballad, and let’s get rockin’!
My Story
Like many of you, I’ve been through life’s ups and downs. From caregiving to career changes, health battles, and relationships that brought both joy and pain.
I understand what it’s like to navigate life through our generation’s lens of fierce independence and determination. We just keep soldiering on, no matter what.
That’s exactly what I did, and it turned out to be a big mistake.
I was so caught up in the overwhelming demands of my life that I didn’t realize the impact on my physical and emotional health. When the situation reached a tipping point, I realized I had to make a choice. I could continue depleting my reserves or change course and take ownership of my well-being.
Moving myself off the back burner of my life wasn’t easy. Believe me, I had plenty of guilty moments! But with time, I saw that self-care didn’t just improve my well-being; I also became more available to those around me.
Now I’ve noticed my old “I’ve got too much to do to take care of myself” mindset in my fellow midlifers. That’s why I created Midlife Mosaic, a platform offering holistic health & wellness advice, personal stories, and resources. It’s a way to hopefully help you fit yourself back into your life - and have fun doing it.
Over the years, I’ve worn all sorts of professional hats. As a neurologist in busy Los Angeles public hospitals, I treated patients, taught resident physicians, and participated in clinical research. I’ve worked as a physician administrator, speaker, and medical writer. In recent years, I’ve also become a certified professional coach.
At Midlife Mosaic, I bring together my medical knowledge, coaching skills, and personal experience to support Gen Xers in living their best years.
